Teaching Tools

Published by l.beech

This page contains teaching outlines (see below) and handouts useful for teaching Love Ethics in small groups, such as Cell Groups. There are 10 teaching sessions, and there may be more. As soon as the new weeks are available, they will be posted to this site. Stay tuned for future outlines and handouts.

The material originated from the Love Ethics class material used by Katey Downs and Keith McCallum (11/07 NeoXenos seminar). By using this material in smaller discussion groups, it is our hope this material will help spread the joy that comes from godly Victorious Love Output.

Suggested time: Allow two to three hours for discussion and teaching. These notes and outlines are neither exhaustive or intended to be used in a strict sequence. Discussion leaders should determine the order and duration of each week. However, the material does tend to build upon itself, so each discussion leader should understand the previous lessons (if team-teaching).

Background material: it is strongly suggested for those leading the discussions to study the background material thoroughly. This includes listening to some of Dr. Ankenman’s on-line lectures as well as the recordings of Keith’s class (currently available in JChurch). This material is not standalone.

Teaching Approach: Grasping the the enormity of God’s love is requires a struggle and willingness to learn. Specifically, Love Ethics is a paradigm-shift away from the relational experiences and understanding of love for most people. It means each person must wrestle with the material and interact with it on an individual level, since we all have different backgrounds and assumptions. Time should be allowed for each person’s unique understanding, so discussion is important.

Homework: assignments were created to help individuals think through the material. Please read the suggested articles. The discussions become quite lively if people come prepared, having completed the homework, and these assignments make great discussion topics.

In Goal In View: remember, people matter and relationships are very messy! The goal is to pursue Victorious Love Output at all costs, including rejection. The fruit is experience real breakthroughs and a winning experience in relationships.

Questions?

  • Contact Dar McCallum or Lisa Beech, who can help walk you through different aspects of the material.
  • Katey Downs is available for discussion at our free and open forum called Katey Chat. Katey brings a long history of experience as a counselor at Xenos, Columbus. Please post your concerns or questions about Love Ethics, post hypothetical (or real) scenarios about relationships and get some feedback on how to apply Victorious Love Output.
